FARMING

There are 30 tenanted farms on the estate, ranging  in size from 80 acres upwards and totalling some 15,500 acres.

Many farmers take considerable pride in the efficiency of their businesses, winning accolades in the industry.

For example, Mike Dagg grows prize-winning potatoes at Crailing Tofts despite the effects of flooding from the River Teviot.

Robert Neill, a recent Asda Beef Farmer of the Year, concentrates on rearing Limousin crosses as well as holding regular open days and educational farm tours.

There is a commitment to sustainability across the whole estate, ensuring the maintenance of hedges and dry stone dykes and participation in rural stewardship schemes to protect and enhance wildlife habitats.
