There's a
surprising diversity of other businesses and organisations located
within the estate. Here are some of them:
Borders Forest Trust,
established in 1996 to conserve, restore and manage native woodlands
and other natural habitats for the benefit of people and wildlife.
Hydraulic
Hammer Hire,
located at Nisbet Smithy
Woodside Walled Garden was
the fruit garden for Monteviot House in days gone by. Now it is an
independent nursery full of interesting stock and an excellent cafe
using (very) locally grown produce
Harestanes was the home farm
for Monteviot House. These days it incorporates several quality
designers and craftworkers with workshops open to the public,
including
Hunter Art and Tile Studio,
Cuero Handbag Designs,
Elizabeth Elliott Ceramics
and
Lilian Busch's contemporary
jewellery

Harestanes
Countryside Visitor Centre is a great starting
point for visitors of all ages - children's play areas indoors and
out, information on Borders wildlife, a programme of activities and
exhibitions throughout the year, and signposted walks from the door.
In
Crailing
Orchard are old varieties of plums, pears and
apple trees which once belonged to Crailing Hall. It is now being
re-established as a working orchard to conserve old Borders fruit
varieties.
The
Border
Group of Riding for the Disabled have an arena
at Monteviot.
Fishermen can rent rods by the
day on the Estate's stretch of the River Teviot, or make a week of
it by renting
Nisbet Old Schoolhouse with
up to six rods
Jedforest Trails is a
network of horse riding, mountain biking and walking routes around
Jedburgh - everything from a 2.5km walk to a 40km bike ride, much of
it across estate land.
In addition there are several
long distance walking routes which cross the estate, including
St
Cuthbert's Way, and the
Borders
Abbeys Way
